Welcome back to Bree’s Mathematical Blog! Today we will be discussing, you guessed it, a mathematical problem. The problem I chose to share with you all is called Choose Your Allowance.  The idea behind this problem is your parents give you 3 options of a monthly allowance, Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C, with the amounts increasing each month relying on you maintaining your grades. You are asked to choose the best plan, in your opinion, and to set up a spreadsheet to answer the first question. Next, the problem asks what this implies about the relative growth rates of different kinds of functions? This is a great example of a real world algebra application where students will create and distinguish between linear, exponential, and quadratic functions. The Numbers app will be a helpful technology tool to use in this problem.
